Launched in 1995 Cadwallader Technical Services (CTS) is a family based low-overhead construction services and materials science firm built around the geosynthetics expertise of Mark Cadwallader, former Director of Research and Technical Development at Gundle Lining Systems. With many types of projects and consulting efforts now in our background CTS is equipped to handle a wide variety of projects in the geosynthetics/geotechnical arena – from failure analysis to product development, and from CQA to liner system repairs and installation.

Mark has been a pioneer in the development of many geosynthetic construction materials and the protocols for their installation, including textured geomembrane, tri-planar geonet/geocomposite, white surfaced sheet, spark testable conductive liner, membrane supported GCL’s, accelerated-aging tests by oxidative induction time, quality control procedures for manufacturers and installers, various surface-modified geomembranes and concrete embedment liners.

Mark has provided failure analysis and field CQA with recommendations for repair and oversight to numerous facilities. On retainer for clients he has served on the board of the International Association of Geosynthetic Installers, led ASTM task groups which developed the first ASTM standards for geomembrane electrical leak location surveys (ELLS) and landfill alternate daily cover (ADC). Mark has authored or co-authored over six dozen papers for technical journals and technical conferences. He has described and influenced geosynthetic design, construction, and testing in public sector geotechnical projects, and chemical processing/waste containment operations including landfill, waste water, power plants, gold, copper, and phosphate mining, and special spill containment industries for soil and concrete linings.

Responsible for developing and implementing many new geosynthetic products, and providing technical support for construction department at world’s largest manufacturer and installer of polyethylene lining systems. Applied standards and protocol for quality testing of materials production and installation operations. Technical representative to government groups, standards groups, and trade/technical associations such as ASTM, Geosynthetics Institute, and Industrial Fabrics Association International.
  • Helped develop 5 new geosynthetics product lines including textured, white-surfaced, spark-testable conductive geomembranes, and membrane-supported bentonite clay blankets, developing technical usage protocols and marketing support worldwide.
  • Technically assessed project installations, installation standards and specifications, and provided failures resolutions.
  • Recipient of U.S. patent on new product introductions.
  • Expert testimony, including for U.S. Congressional hearings on the use and technology of geosynthetic barriers for environmental containment.
  • Brought materials testing lab up-to-date with added testing capabilities, manufacturing and field QC, and computerized laboratory management system.
  • Primary author and editor of company’s CQA program manual, and team leader of the cross-functional group which developed CQA/CQC practices for the world’s largest geosynthetics installation company. Mark visited numerous geosynthetics projects, providing resolutions to QA/QC protocol.

Aqaba Water Treatment Plant - Aqaba, Jordan
Performed failure analysis of badly ruptured waste water lagoon, developed repair work plan, and oversaw the extensive repair with CQA, including electrical leak location testing (ELLS) and final report.

Barton Creek Waste Water Pond - Austin, TX
Field CQA for geomembrane lined waste water pond.

Butte County Landfill Expansion - Chico, CA
Performed CQA management and inspection for construction of the compacted clay liner and geosynthetic liner system for the Butte County Phase C landfill cell. The clay liner construction also included construction of a clay liner test pad and Boutwell field permeability testing.

Calabasas Landfill - Calabasas, CA
Construction management oversight of geosynthetic materials removal, replacement and repair.

Guadalupe Waste Water Ponds - Comal Co, TX
Conducted field CQA on the geosynthetic lining of a series of waste water treatment ponds.

Gypsum Mine Tailings Stack Pad - Bartow, Florida
CQA evaluation study and report for geosynthetic liner system installation.

Hardin County Landfill Expansion - Kountze, TX
